| Meditation or Football |
| By Greg Vanden Berge 9/10/2008 |
I don't remember learning to meditate when I was in high school do you?
I wonder if people in India or China learn to meditate when they are in
school. Does learning to meditate actually lead to levitation or some
sort of unbelievable spirituality that the modern day religious follower
could never attain, the average person could never reach this level of
actually being like a god.
I have always wondered why one country spends so much time teaching
their people about one thing while another country thinks it's
completely stupid. That country would rather spend its time building up
military supplies and making number one collegiate activity aggressive
sports like football.
I personally have nothing against football. Do you realized that
watching football on TV is actually one form of meditation. You're
sitting in a comfortable chair relaxing while you're doing simple
breathing exercises. Hey the next time someone comes in and tries to
irritate you by letting you know that watching TV is a waste of time,
you can explain to them that you're meditating and would like to be left
alone.
Now this might not be acceptable to some of the Buddhist Monks that live
in Tibet or Northern India but in America this seems to work pretty
good. Let's face it after a nice weekend of relaxation sitting on the
couch with the exception of some 12 ounce curls while you are in deep
meditation, of course, this provides you with enough rest for another
five days of work.
During these five days of work, hard work of course you look forward to
starting the weekend all over again, meditating on your nice relaxing
sofa. Now let's just say for one hour each weekend you actually did
choose to meditate with out the TV being on. Would there be any benefit
to you financially or emotionally. Would this lead to spiritual
enlightenment and some sort of telepathic communication with your
friends.
I can't really answer that question honestly because the only television
I watch is education based with the exception of about four movies each
week. I do try to meditate at the least 30 minutes each day and have
been doing so for the past two months.
I can honestly say that I am a lot less reactive to other people and
actually feel healthier. Can I honestly say that these newfound effects
on my life are for meditation. No honestly I can not but in a short
period of time I should be able to verify this.
What would it hurt to check out a book from your local library or
purchase one on meditation. If you spend a lot of time in your car
driving to and from work you could always find an audio book on
meditating. People have been meditating for years with excellent results
so the choice is yours, television meditation or Chakra Meditation. It
could change your life.
